Hello, Reader.

My homeschool students and I are heading to LeTourneau University in Longview this morning for an all-day conference celebrating the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea, which helped solidify the church's position on several key theological beliefs, such as the deity of Christ.

Another historical event that made a lasting impact on Christian doctrine? The Reformation! On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther posted a list of 95 theses to the door of the Wittenberg Castle Church, and the reverberations of his pounding in that nail are still echoing today.

And that is the topic of our link list this week. 📋

What I'm reading this week:

I read John Trent's book The Blessing when I first got married. It had a huge impact on how I've related to both my husband and my children. So when I spotted 30 Ways a Wife Can Bless Her Husband on the list books I could get for free with My Reader Rewards a few months back, I jumped on it.

The book's introduction references many of the same principles laid out in his earlier book, but then he follows it up with a variety of suggestions for putting those ideas into practice.

It was a quick and enjoyable read and a good reminder to be intentional in the way I bless and encourage and build up my husband.

This week's reader request:

I've received many letters recently from people asking about my cancer journey and letting me know 1) that they are praying for my complete healing and/or 2) that they've recently embarked on such a journey themselves. I've been communicating with several such women and have lifted them up to the LORD in prayer, as well. Here's a list of the things I pray for those battling cancer:

On the podcast this week:

Loving Life at Home: Episode 102

MY DAUGHTER JUST ELOPED (& WHY THAT MAKES ME HAPPY)

My daughter eloped last week, and I couldn’t be more delighted. Yet some of my friends are baffled by this reaction. So I'm unpacking the reasons I feel as I do about the matter on the podcast this week.

Progress on last week's goals:

I made decent headway on my most recent to-do list: I ✅ sent a new Bible memory passage to my kids and grandkids (it is so sweet to hear even the 2-3 year olds quote their verses!), ✅ crocheted trim on the bell-bottoms my daughter wore to a 70s-theme homeschool dance, ✅ cleared off my closet desk, and ✅ recorded two new podcast episodes (the one linked above, plus EP 103, which is entitled How Should Christians Handle Halloween?).

But I still haven't ❌ finished my lesson plans, ❌ completely decluttered my closet, ❌ cleared out my inbox, or ❌ repotted my fig, and I only ✅ walked 5 (❌ not 7) miles over the course of the week.

Personal goals for this week:

  • attend Nicaea Anniversary conference
  • send daughter's wedding invitations
  • shop for wedding dress (ISO: plain white gown w/cap sleeves, full skirt, no lace or beadwork)
  • make paper gingerbread house sample for craft class
  • host an outdoor movie (weather permitting)
  • start pottery lessons
  • vote on (or before) election day
  • record song for next family competition
  • complete 4 more pages of my thanksgiving journal
